The Last Battle. Each angelic warrior dons their ageless armaments. Ancient pieces fashioned in the holy fires of heaven’s forges. The highest Angels did not bother with armor - they were shielded by their own glory. The vast majority of heaven’s army however, girded themselves with the gear that had lasted them through the generations. Every piece, fashioned to perfection, each fabric woven with heavenly care. They were prepared. The Last Battle would be theirs. And there it was - the Trumpet Sound. The Battle begins.

For this piece I delved into a bit of ancient symbology. I pulled from a couple of places.
- The Celtic Cross: located on the shoulder armor
- The Quatrefoil: intertwined with the cross on the shoulder armor.
- The Jerusalem Cross: located on the thigh armor
- The Lion of David: located on the knee armor and engraved in the angelic sword
- The Latin Cross: located on the shield, the helmet, the arm guards and shin guards
- The Greek Cross: located on the center medallion and the side-covering armor

This piece was done in graphite pencil (H, F, HB, 2B, & 6B) on 400 series paper. Hence the grainy-ness. It looks really cool in real life - the effect isn’t exactly the same in its digital counterpart,
.
I’m really satisfied with how this one came out. Especially and armor and the sword. Those aren’t my specialties, but I think I pulled it off decently!
. (also, hopefully this satisfies
’s request for a sword design!
). Keep an eye out for Part 2, which will feature a giant demon gearing up for The Last Battle. ![]()
I’d love to hear your comments!!

Note: in case your curious - the runes on the edges aren’t any real language, but a really cool font I found. The actual words on the sides of the picture are:
“Blessed be the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle” (Psalm 144:1)
and on the top and bottom:
- “He teaches my hands to make war” (Psalm 18:32,37)

Wow I really love this drawing and many of your other ones. I was wondering if i could get your permission to get some of your art as tattos?
I really like this one too.. i was also thinking of doing a tattoo of this drawing with some slight modifications. I really like the symbolism in the armor and the fact that the armor isn’t overbearing. The use of the cape and cloth is a perfect combination with the armor. The only thing i would change are the wings. I would make them more prominent and more visible. Also i would like to see some sort of mist or heavenly flames off the sword, as if it were glowing. the last thing (sorry) but the shield doesn’t seem to be affecting the cloak on the left side. like he shield would be pressing on the cloak. it would seem like the depth is off. but i still love it.
I’m sorry, I didnt even ask your permission after all that, heh. Would you permit me to use this as a tattoo also?
Sean & Dylan -
glad you both like the piece! And yes, you can use it as a tattoo. But please consider purchasing a print of some of my other artwork. You can get it at http://bigmanhaywood.deviantart.com/prints/ . It helps me keep my art online and drawing new stuff. thanks!

Man this has got to be one of the coolest drawings I have ever seen. I have been wanting a tattoo of this type for a long time and I wondered if it would be possible for me to use your work. If not I totally understand. Either way this is awesome and you have a real gift.
Thanks
