Featured Artist

Time for featured artists! I was lucky enough to interview the magnificient minarho1 and ask her some question about her art. If you get a chance, take a look through her works; her skill at a “painty” type coloring and subtle use of light is amazing. You’d be hard-pressed to find another artist who can make illustrated and comic-style works look so 3-D! But enough me - on to the interview!

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself - name, where you’re from, what you’re like, etc?
I might as well be a cryptid(a term which is used in the pseudoscience of cryptozoology to refer to a creature whose existence has been suggested by cryptozoologists but lacks scientific support). I’m a girl who loves comicbooks. I’m a total geek, fangirl nerd from the U.S. I draw from time to time. I also like to bake vegan sweets when the mood strikes.

2. How did you get into art?
I started drawing when I was 2, if you can believe it. I actually remember that day. I was watching one of those kid shows on public tv where some guy draws scenes from a kid’s book as someone reads it aloud. So I started drawing as I watched that and I didn’t stop and became a horrible, non-communative brat with graphite, chalk and paint stains on me all the time. I was a pain.

3. How would you describe your style of art?
I don’t think I have a style of my own. Though it looks sort of "toony" and manga like if I stop drawing for a while and come back to it and then it takes a while to weed out the toonyness of it.

4. What’s your inspiration when creating new works?
I consider myself a fan first and not really an artist. So it’s whatever I’m enamored with.

5. Who are your favorite artists right now?
That’s easy! Adam Hughes. Drew Johnson, Frank Cho, Terry Dodson, Rags Morales Joe Prado, and Stuart Immonen! There’s more, but then I’d be going on for paragraphs on end.

6. Out of all the juices in the world, which one is superior and why?
Lemon! It’s all purpose. I know, boring answer.

7. How do you make your anatomy accurate?
I don’t! Don’t you hate those that can, though?

8. What do you hope to accomplish with your art? Why do you do it?
Just to enjoy myself.

9. Explain your process of coloring new pieces?
Layers. Lots of tedious layers.

10. Club crackers or Saltines?
And death is not an option? Okay, Saltines.

A few of her works…
